An Expert’s Guide to Keeping Your Wedding Décor Cohesive

(Even If You Can’t Pick a Style)

It’s no secret—weddings are full of choices. But what happens when you love all the styles? One moment you’re drawn to modern and minimalist, and the next, you’re pinning lush, garden-inspired tablescapes — oopsies! Don't worry, you’re not alone. Through the years we’ve talked to many brides, and we many struggle to commit to just one aesthetic.

As wedding designers, we see this all the time. You start with a vision, but as you gather more inspiration—from Pinterest, real weddings, and styled shoots—you find yourself falling in love with so many different elements. Suddenly, you're in a design spiral, unsure of how to bring everything together in a way that makes sense. Sound familiar?

Here’s the good news! You don’t have to choose just one style to create a beautifully cohesive wedding. The key is to blend your favorite details with intention, making them feel purposeful rather than random. So where do you begin? With years of experience designing weddings that feel seamless and thoughtfully curated, here’s our expert approach and advice to bringing multiple styles together effortlessly.

1. Start with a Core Vision

Before diving into décor decisions, take a step back and ask yourself:

• What feeling do I want my wedding to have? (Is it Romantic, modern, elegant, ethereal?)

• What words describe the atmosphere? We suggest to pick 3 words to best describe what you want. (Timeless, bold, whimsical, cozy?)

• How do I want guests to experience the space?

Once sit down and define your overall vision, it really becomes easier to filter through your ideas and see which one fits the category and doesn’t.. What we want you to keep in mind is as you mix and blend styles, the key is if we keep the mood consistent it help ensures we keep a seamless look through your overall design.

2. Choose a Unifying Element

To avoid a mismatched look, (trust the expert, you don’t want this for your wedding!) anchor your design with one or two elements that repeat throughout the event. What do we mean by this? Here are some foolproof ways to do this:

• Color Palette: Stick to a refined color scheme (3–5 shades). This allows you to mix modern, classic, or eclectic pieces while still maintaining flow. Take it from your floral besties, you don’t need to have all of your flowers match each color you choose. Let the flowers and decor elements stand out on it’s own by not having every color introduced everywhere.

• Floral Style: Whether you love structured arrangements or a loose, organic feel, keeping your florals consistent will really help tie everything together.

• Materials & Textures: Choose a signature material—gold accents, velvet linens, acrylic details, or wood textures—to create a harmonious effect.

This approach lets you incorporate multiple styles while making sure things feel cohesive rather than conflicting as they get introduced all around the space.

3. Identify Your Anchor Points

Not every single décor piece has to match perfectly, but we do believe that key areas should feel consistent. Anchor points in your design help bring together elements you introduce. Think about what these areas for your space are and focus on the most photographed and visually impactful moments. Some areas for you may be:

Entrance & Welcome Area – This first impression really sets the tone for the entire event. A statement floral arrangement or custom signage can instantly immerse guests in the event’s aesthetic before they even step inside the reception space.

Bar Area – The bar isn’t just for ordering cocktails—it’s an opportunity to introduce and immerse all of your guest in the ambiance of your night. This is where guest are most frequent at though the night, and let’s be honest, keep going back to. So, whether it’s a lush floral statement design, elegant signage, or a striking backdrop, this space can be both functional and visually captivating making a perfect focal point.

Portrait or Statement Wall – A floral or draped backdrop with curated props helps reinforce the event’s style and creates an interactive space for guests.

These focal points really help act as visual guideposts, ensuring your décor flows beautifully throughout the space.

4. Create a Mood Board

One of the biggest mistakes couples make is collecting inspiration from too many places without seeing how they work together. Instead of saving multiple Pinterest boards for different styles, a big tip from us is compile all your favorite ideas into one board. It helps you visually see things all together and what that can look like together. Creating a mood board can also help you.

• Identify any clashing elements early on. Something you thought you really loved, you realized needs to be voted out.

• Keep you from impulsively adding décor that doesn’t fit the overall aesthetic. We always like to say, just because something is beautiful to you does not mean it should be for your wedding. Seeing beautiful inspiration everywhere is like having shiny object syndrome (bridal version).

• Ensure every design choice contributes to the big picture. Having a mood board can really help check off this box for your and visually get your thoughts on one page.
